Tour Through Blogland–The Rustic Willow Edition

Hi friends! I’m sure by now you’ve all seen the “Tour Through Blogland” segment going around this amazing blogging community, and if you haven’t then you’re missing out. Basically, all of us bloggers are opening up our homes and inviting you in for a sneak peak!

The lovely, lovely ladies at Elizabeth Joan Designs nominated me to be the next stop at the tour. If you haven’t checked out their blog yet, you are seriously missing out. Two of my absolute favorite posts from them (which was hard to choose, there are so many!) are the Lavender Wreath and the DIY Reversible Tote Bag. Seriously, super awesome. And I’m in need of a new tote bag, so I think that’s going to be my next project!

Anyways, onto my house. I’ve actually been on vacation from my house in New Orleans to visit my mom up at our family’s beach house this week. So, I’ve decided to give you a tour of that house–since it’s my favorite house in the world. It’s nestled up in quaint Lavallette, which is a teeny, tiny beach town in central/south Jersey. It’s wonderful!

I’ll start by showing you the sun room/front porch:

This porch is where I spend a majority of my time when I’m visiting. With the windows open you can feel the salt air coming through and talk to the neighbors as they walk by. It’s the kind of town where everyone is friendly and everyone’s in a good mood.

Next up is the living room:

I think the living room is just perfect. Sadly, when Hurricane Sandy ripped through the Jersey Shore, it left the house with a lot of flood damage. Although the storm was terrible, it did allow my mother to get the denim couches she always wanted–so that was the silver lining! It also allowed for brand new (and beautiful) hardwood floors.

However my favorite part about the living room is definitely the walls. I absolutely love the wood walls–I think it adds both a rustic look while throwing in a beachy feel.

Next up, the bathroom:

We have some of the cutest and sweetest signs in the house–and these two in the bathroom are two of my favorites. The sandal sign is hung on the back of the door for any wet towels, and the saltwater sign is just an adorable saying placed in a rustic frame that reminds you just how awesome the beach is.

The bathroom was also just completely redone due to damages from Sandy. I think the ruffle curtain and the beachy touches came out awesome.

Next, the bedroom I grew up in:

I love this room! This was my room at the beach (still is when I go to visit) and the bright colors and hardwood walls are just my style. Can’t go wrong with a little (OK, a lot) of turquoise! If it were up to me, everything would be in turquoise.

Lastly, the sitting spot in the front of the house:

The yards in Lavallette are made of stone–it’s an island and the grass is just a pain in the butt to grow, plus most people don’t live there year round, so the stones are an easy upkeep!

This well is also a new edition, it was given as a gift to my mom and I think it’s the most adorable thing. I want one for my house! It makes the house feel a lot more welcoming.

Now, this is the part of the tour where I answer a few questions about myself!

1) What am I working on?

That’s a great question! I have so many unfinished projects in my craft room that I don’t know which one to choose! I’m always working on developing new recipes and trying yummy stuff out in the kitchen. As far as DIY goes, I’ve been working on ideas for a clock to go in my craft room–I think I know exactly what I want to do, next step is to do it!

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Everything I do is on a major budget. I know everyone tries to do things on a budget, but I try to do things for a few dollars! I love shopping at thrift stores, and I love saving money in any way I can by growing my own herbs or looking for ways to incorporate ingredients that I already have in the house into new recipes. I believe that beautiful and tasty things can be made for really cheap!

3) Why do I write/create what I do?

I’ve always been a writer–I love being able to tell things to people and have them want to listen! I love the idea that something I make can inspire someone else to make the same thing–whether it be to feed their families or decorate their homes. I’ve learned so much from other bloggers and people, that I just want to return the favor and teach them what I know or what I come up with. I’m constantly learning, and I think it’s important to constantly be teaching and sharing what you learn.

4) How does your writing/creating process work?

I’ll let you know when I figure that out! Right now I don’t have a process–I just do whatever project that comes to my mind when it comes to my mind. It’s a lot easier to come up with recipes because I cook every day. But really, I just make sure to piggyback off of any inspiration I get and I write a post when I’m feeling motivated.

Now I’d like to pass the torch of Tour Through Blogland onto Sweet, Sassy Southern Belle who has become one of my good friends in this blogging community. And in just a week we’re collaborating on something super fun for you all, so make sure to stop back by the blog on September 1st!

Make sure to stop by Sweet, Sassy South Belle to check out her posts and to see her house tour next Monday!

Thanks for coming on my tour 🙂
